Here’s a rundown of the week’s action ...

OPENING ROUND
Central Noble halts 41-game losing streak with 39-36 win at Busco
The Streak is over for Central Noble.

Despite going scoreless in the opening quarter in spotting host Churubusco a 9-0 lead after eight minutes, second-year coach Lynford Yoder’s Cougars refused to give up and clawed their way back to a 39-36 victory that ends a 41-game losing streak.

Central Noble responded to that horrendous first period with 14 second-quarter points to trail at the half by a touchdown at 21-14 – a score that Notre Dame would have been thrilled with in Monday’s BCS championship drubbing at the hands of Alabama.

The Cougars (1-14) then chipped away to cut the gap to 29-24 heading to the final stanza, when they outscored fourth-year coach Jamie Perlich’s Eagles by a 15-7 count to grab the elusive victory.

It wasn’t easy for Central Noble, which shot only 25 percent (13 of 51) from the field and only 63 percent (12 of 19) from the free throw line. But limiting mistakes was huge as the Cougars committed only seven turnovers in the contest while snagging 10 steals off Busco (3-12).

Junior Tiffany Simcox led Central Noble with 10 points, six rebounds, and two steals, while classmate Kennedy Forker added eight points, three boards, and five steals.

With the win, Central Noble moves on to host Fairfield (8-4), a 42-28 opening-round winner at Eastside, in Wednesday’s quarterfinals.

The night’s other first-round affair saw Prairie Heights pound host Lakeland, 58-30. The Panthers will host West Noble (10-4), which had a bye, Wednesday.
