Heller’s double-double paces Prairie Heights to 65-54 win at Bethany Christian
Prairie Heights used a surge over the second and third quarters Dec. 1 to defeat host Bethany Christian, 65-54, in boys basketball action.
After trailing 20-12 after the opening period, the Panthers outscored Bethany Christian 39-24 to take a 53-44 lead into the fourth. Prairie Heights then held on for the double-digit victory by winning the fourth quarter, 12-10.
Sophomore Jacob Heller was huge for Prairie Heights, recording a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Kyler West added 10 points, three boards, and four steals for coach Brett Eltzroth’s Panthers, who shot 55 percent from both behind the 3-point line (6 of 11) as well as inside it (17 of 31).

Converset’s three at OT buzzer lifts Hamilton past Lakeland Christian, 63-61
Senior Brett Converset’s 3-pointer at the overtime buzzer lifted visiting Hamilton to a thrilling 63-61 win Dec. 1 at Lakeland Christian Academy.
Converset led the Marines with a team-high 22 points to go along with seven rebounds and three steals. Junior Aaron Kelley added nine points, seven boards, and seven steals as Hamilton snagged 14 steals to overcome 22 turnovers.

West Noble gets something from everyone in 44-32 win at Wawasee
A 15-2 second quarter was key for visiting West Noble as the Chargers held on for a 44-32 victory Dec. 1 at Wawasee.
The win, which boosted coach Jim Best’s team to 3-0 on the young season, resulted largely from the efforts of four players as well as 64 percent shooting (16 of 25) from inside the 3-point line.
Senior Nick Thomas led the way with 13 points, while junior Drew Schermerhorn added 10. Juniors Phil Miller and Keith Gibson also made significant contributions as the former had 10 assists and three rebounds to go along with four points and the latter had 11 rebounds and two assists plus six points.

First half a key in Angola’s 56-46 NECC win at Central Noble
Angola rolled out to a 32-18 halftime advantage Nov. 30 and held off host Central Noble, 56-46, in a Northeast Corner Conference clash.
Junior Connor McCoy had 18 points and senior Alex Vice added nine points, four rebounds, and four steals for Central Noble, which couldn’t overcome 17 percent shooting (2 for 12) from 3-point range.

Jenkins nearly logs triple-double in Fremont’s 54-35 NECC win over Lakeland
Host Fremont built a 42-20 lead after three quarters and coasted to a 54-35 Northeast Corner Conference win Nov. 30 over Lakeland.
Senior Tyler Jenkins led the way for Fremont with a double-double – and barely missing a triple-double – with 20 points and 11 rebounds to go along with nine assists. Classmate Austin Corcimiglia chipped in with eight points, three rebounds, and three steals.
The 3-pointer was big for the Eagles, who finished 9 of 23 (39 percent) from downtown.

Double-doubles for Fairfield’s Lantz, Scott in 64-50 NECC win vs. Prairie Heights
Seniors Brad Lantz (16 points, 16 rebounds) and Garrett Scott (14 points, 10 rebounds) each recorded double-doubles Nov. 30 as Fairfield defeated visiting Prairie Heights, 64-50, in a Northeast Corner Conference game.
Free throws also made a big difference as Fairfield hit 89 percent on 24 of 27 attempts compared with 14 of 19 (74 percent) for the Panthers.
Sophomore Jacob Heller led Prairie Heights with 20 points and four rebounds, while junior Kyler West added nine points.

Third quarter the key in Fort Wayne Canterbury’s 55-48 victory at Eastside
A 12-4 third-quarter advantage played a huge role for Fort Wayne Canterbury as the Cavaliers held off host Eastside for a 55-48 win Nov. 30.
Eastside entered halftime with a 28-27 lead, but Canterbury came out of the break to take a 40-31 lead into the final stanza.
Senior Jayden Lilly led Eastside with 24 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. Junior Kadis Renier added eight points for the Blazers, who shot better from 3-point land (7 of 15 for 47 percent) than inside the arc (11 of 25 for 44 percent).

Elkhart Christian Academy rolls past host Hamilton, 83-51
A 32-8 second quarter allowed Elkhart Christian Academy plenty of cushion Nov. 30 as the visitors posted an 83-51 victory at Hamilton.
The Marines shot well from up close in going 15 of 27 from inside the 3-point line, but they finished just 2 of 16 (12 percent) from downtown.
Junior Casey Rote posted a double-double for Hamilton with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while junior Aaron Kelley added 11 points.
