Here’s a look at results from Northeast Corner Conference schools from Week 3 (Nov. 19-24) of the 2012-13 Indiana girls basketball season …

Knafel’s 30 trumps Carbone’s double-double in Wawasee's 55-33 win at Prairie Heights
Wawasee senior KiLee Knafel, the state’s leading scorer at 31.4 points per game, continued her assault on Northeast Corner Conference schools with a 30-point performance Nov. 24 in leading the Warriors to a 55-33 win at Prairie Heights.

Prairie Heights (3-2) was hampered by a chilly first half in which it was outscored 32-11. The Panthers were further hamstrung by cold shooting from both the free throw line (11 of 28 for 39 percent) and behind the 3-point arc (0 for 7).

Junior Shawna Carbone led Prairie Heights with a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds while senior Rebekah Frey added eight points and eight boards.

Knafel, meanwhile, has hit 31 of 65 2-point attempts (48 percent) and 17 of 35 threes (49 percent) through five games, all Warrior wins. She also is shooting 85 percent (44 of 52) from the free throw line and has made 32 steals, an average of 6.4 per game.

Four of Wawasee’s wins have come by double digits against NECC competition. The Warriors opened their season with victories at Westview (64-41) and Lakeland (51-31) before beating visiting Fairfield 64-43 and winning 63-54 at East Noble.

Freshman Kylee Rostochak added 11 points for Wawasee, the 2007 Class 3A state runner-up to Brebeuf Jesuit under longtime coach Kem Zolman. Shanna Zolman, Kem’s daughter, remains Indiana’s all-time leading scorer with 3,085 points.

The contest was a virtual toss-up right down to the statistics, with the exception of free throw shooting. Westview (1-3 overall, 1-0 in NECC play) finished 11 of 16 for 69 percent, while the Panthers (3-1, 2-1) were just 10 of 22 for 45 percent.

Freshman Maria McCoy just missed a double-double for Westview 21 points, nine rebounds, and five blocked shots. Olivia Miller chipped in 10 rebounds and three blocks.
