Former First Lady Laura Bush Visits North Dallas High School

October 4, 2010
North Dallas High School Booster Club

Dear NDHS Teachers, Students, Parents and Community:

I would like to thank everyone for their cooperation and assistance in making today's event a memorable day for our students. Special thanks also to our security team for ensuring safety and order in our building. Two faculty members, Mr. Jade Esquivel and Ms. Tamara Jeffery, and seven students did  a wonderful job in representing our school to the media and guests at a panel discussion with Mrs. Laura Bush.  The former first lady made a personal request to talk to the students in a more personal setting, to know what they think school should be from students' own points of view. She took time to know them prior to her arrival by reading their bios and it was very evident during the discussion. She also pointed out to me that she's wearing an orange shade color dress because our school color is orange.

Please take time to talk to them about their conversation with the former First Lady. My description will not do justice about how eloquently they spoke about their aspirations in life, higher education, graduation and completion rates, the impact of NCLB among youth, bilingual literacy, balancing extra-curricular activities and studies, and search for a meaningful student life (including dress code and uniform!).

The students were: Oscar Cardona, Devin Ritter, Lejla Pracic, Fredi Garcia, Angelli Olmedo, Jeremy Aldrige, and Tinn Luu.

She was very impressed about our students, our school and the warm welcome we accorded her and her staff. NDHS was chosen as the kickoff site for a new national principal leadership program because of the wonderful things that you collectively accomplished in the classroom. It takes effective teachers to move student achievement to a higher level. We will continue to soar higher and to keep our focus on the goal - the road to greatness!

Sincerely,

Dinnah Escanilla
