Coach Barnhill steps up as interim athletic coordinator
August 26, 2014By gary pina of North Dallas High School Booster Club
Coach Chris Barnhill, the new interim athetic coordinator, says the athletic program is heading in the right direction.
As the female athletic coordinator, Coach Chris Barnhill oversaw cross country, golf, tennis, volleyball, girls’ soccer and softball. Now, as the acting athletic coordinator, he oversees the whole program.
Coach Barnhill replaced Carlton Dixon, who recently left to take a position in college athletics, as the school’s athletic coordinator.
“Now instead of just covering girl’s athletics, I am in charge of all athletics on campus.” said CoachBarnhill, 40, who teaches the dual credit video game design class and is also the girls’ softball coach.
Coach Barnhill takes over at a time when North Dallas enters a new division – 5A – and a new district, 11-5A. ND will be competing against the likes of Woodrow Wilson, Hillcrest, Bryan Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Conrad and both Carrollton Creekview and Newman Smith.
“I think the overall athletic program is going in the right direction,” he said. “We have some positive coaching influences on the kids, and they’re pushing the athletes further than before.”
Entering his seventh year at ND, Coach Barnhill is encouraged by the increased number of students participating in football, volleyball and cross country considering they all start before the school year.
“It’s all about having the right personalities coaching our students” he said.
