2013-14 was a successful year at ND

July 23, 2014

Athletic Director Carlton Dixon answers a few questions about the past school year at North Dallas High.

Q. As athletic director, are you pleased with the results of the ND program?

I was pleased with the overall growth.  From our girls basketball team winning its first district game in four years, to our increased numbers in volleyball (had a freshman team for the first time in school history). We won numerous district championships, and had 14 All-District first team performers across all of our team sports.

Q. What was the highlight of the school year?

The highlight would have to be the overall success of the Neighborhood Bulldogs program. In its first year, three of our feeder elementary schools were serviced with NDHS student-athlete mentors, tutors and role models. It was a treat to see smiles on kids’ faces, and wonderful relationships develop throughout the year.

Q. What are the top 5 memorable moments from this school year?

  • Girls basketball winning its first district game in four years
  • Jason Medellin hitting a game-winning home run to clinch the baseball bi-district championship
  • Boys soccer team advancing to the fourth round of the state playoffs despite not having a full-time coach for the second half of the season
  • Girls track increasing the program’s numbers to 19 participants this year
  • 2nd Annual Night Of The D.A.W.G.

Q. What are your expectations for the program next year?

EXCELLENCE. For no program to dip below the level it achieved this past year.  I would also like to send a team or an individual to the state championship in their respective sport.

Q. Do you anticipate any coaching changes for next year? If so, which sports?

Yes, we are finalizing the selections of a new boys soccer coach, new wrestling coach and a new girls basketball coach.

Q. Looking ahead, how will ND fare in the new District 11-5A against the likes of Hillcrest, BA, Woodrow and the Carrollton schools?

It is going to be an awesome district! The balance of power is spread more evenly now, and there will be an opportunity to make the playoffs/regionals in numerous sports! The planning meetings with the Carrollton schools have been great, and I look forward to working with them and competing against them for years to come.

Q. Any final comments?

We are getting better EVERY DAY... and every day, we are GETTING BETTER!
