Boys soccer team opens tourney with win

January 27, 2014

Daniel Ruano scored a hat trick in leading North Dallas to a 4-0 win over Burleson in the Ennis 287 tournament. In addition to Ruano's three goals, Jorge Gutierrez also scored a goal.

The tournament continues Friday. The Bulldogs raised their record to 4-1.

Soccer coach George Berre said he likes the potential of this year's soccer team.

"This team has just as much potential as last year's team," said Berre, who recently left the classroom but will remain as the Bulldogs coach. "If we can overcome internal obstacles, the sky is the limit."

The Bulldogs soccer team finished 20-4-1 last season and advanced to the regional round last season for the first time.

"We are a fast, high skilled team this year," Berre said in an email. "We can't play the ball high and long. We have to focus on our game, possession with the ball on the ground.

"I don't think this team knows how good they are yet. As always, things seem to start clicking toward the end of the district season.”
