North Dallas moving up in 2014-16 alignment

The UIL recently released its realignment cutoff numbers for the 2014-16 alignment, and North Dallas will move up from Class 4A to 5A along with the other Dallas ISD teams.
The UIL cutoff numbers for Class 5A is 1,060 to 2,099, and North Dallas is at 1,279. Dallas ISD recently said current 4A teams Carter, Pinkston and Lincoln will drop to 4A (465 to 1,059). North Dallas currently competes against Pinkston and Carter in District 11-4A.
"North Dallas HS will compete with anyone on any level. That has to be the mindset here," said Carlton Dixon, school athletic director. "That's the only way we will grow and get better."
Asked about the possibility of staying at 4A level, Dixon said, "No, you can only appeal to play up, not come down. Once the enrollment levels are set, that's pretty much it."
Dixon said he expects the Bulldogs to compete in the same district with the same Dallas schools.
"It sounds better being called a 5A program, but again, no real difference," Dixon said.
The official 2014-16 alignment will be announced in February, but Dallas Morning News sportswriter Corbett Smith predicted that the DISD district could include Adamson, Kimball, North Dallas, Seagoville, South Oak Cliff, Molina, Mesquite Poteet and West Mesquite.
"As far as balance goes, DISD’s southern district is a whopper," Smith wrote. "Adding two great programs in Poteet and West Mesquite would change the balance of that district — with Kimball, S.O.C., Seagoville and others likely fighting for two playoff spots. But, alternatives aren’t much better. Instead of Garland and Mesquite, the UIL could add Carrollton to the north district and Lancaster to the south. Either way, DISD isn’t going to like the additions."
