'It was a great season for the Bulldogs'
November 17, 2012By gary pina of North Dallas High School Booster Club
All season long, North Dallas head football coach Brad Peirson talked about breaking the playoff drought.
With the likes of Kimball, South Oak Cliff and Carter in District 11-4A, the Bulldogs’ only hope was the fourth playoff spot.
After the loss to Seagoville, Peirson still remained hopeful of a playoff spot. He knew the opportunity was there. Then the Bulldogs defeated Pinkston and Adamson to move into position for a playoff spot. But the loss to Molina spoiled those hopes.
But regardless, the Bulldogs team brought a lot of spirit and pride to the school this season. They were so close to a playoff spot.
Completing his third season as head coach, Peirson reflects on this 4-6 season.
What did you think of the season overall?
It was a great season for the Bulldogs. The last game was very exciting and just to have a shot at making the state playoffs is a big deal for these kids and this school. I truly appreciate everything the alumni and everyone else did for us. These kids overcame a lot and came within 24 minutes of reaching our final goal. I think we may have turned the corner as a football team and school.
What will you remember most about this season?
The thing I will remember most about this year are these student-athletes. The seniors on this team were great players. Our seniors gave us tremendous leadership. When coach Hamilton left three years ago and I took over this program, I told these kids that I would be the head coach here until the freshmen graduated, and I kept my promise.
David Moore, Jeremiah Gantt, Darnell Anderson, Juan Gamino, Juwan Lampkin, Jesus Ortiz and Michael Cantu all stuck with me for the entire time and it really paid off for them. I think North Dallas football will continue to grow and improve and a lot of the credit should go to these seniors!
Top 5 moments from this season
1. The opening game against Diamond-Hill Jarvis because we won.
2. Our pep-rally against Sunset because Channel 4 news was here and it was cool for our kids and school.
3. I told the kids that we needed a signature win in which the game was decided early on and we got that against Sunset. So that was a top moment.
4. Beating Adamson to have a chance to make the playoffs going in to week 10 was very exciting.
5. The game against Molina was exciting because it was homecoming and we had a big crowd and a chance to make the playoffs.
Funniest moments from this season
I can't think of a lot of funny moments this year. It was a very fun year and I enjoyed every minute.
Best game of the season
The Adamson game was definitely the best we played all year. They came in on a roll and I don't really think many people thought we would win. Our kids played exceptional and we blew them out. And now they are in the playoffs.
What a fun year. I enjoyed every minute. These kids are a joy to be around. We had some tough times and some tough games but I wouldn't trade a second. I will really miss this senior class they are sons to me. These are the men who got North Dallas football heading in the right direction. The future is bright and we have a lot of young kids who played important roles this year and should carry on next year. I would like to thank the booster club, the alumni, the cheerleaders, drill team, and band for all of their support!
