Meet the basketball coaches: Kelly Connor and Carlton Dixon
November 11, 2012North Dallas High School Booster Club
Girls basketball coach: Kelly Connor
Kelly Connor is the new girls head basketball coach at North Dallas High School. Although she is new to North Dallas High School, this is her 19th year of coaching basketball. Before coming to North Dallas, she coached basketball at Lovejoy High school in Lucas. In 2010-11, her team reached the UIL Class 3A state championship, but came up short losing to Abilene Wylie in the championship game.
Before coaching at Lovejoy, Connor was an assistant coach at McKinney North High School. The team was six points short of making it to the state tournament during the 2009-10 season, losing to Frisco Wakeland in the regional championship game. She was also the head coach at Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC), and several different high schools in Wisconsin.
Prior to coaching basketball, Connor was a Division I basketball player at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, where she was a letter winner all four years. As a high school player, Connor led the city (Milwaukee, Wis.) in scoring.
Connor has two children: Michael, 18, graduated from McKinney North High School last year, and daughter Mikaehla, 16, plays basketball for McKinney North High School. In her spare time, she likes to hang out with her family, play basketball and cook.
“I am looking forward to the possibilities that this season is going to bring to North Dallas High School,” Connor said, “and I am looking forward to the support that we will receive from our North Dallas community.”
Boys basketball coach: Carlton Dixon
Carlton Dixon, a Dallas native, is enjoying his first year as head coach of the North Dallas basketball team. He brings a wealth of experience to the Bulldogs athletic program. He was a former All-American high school player for Dallas Lincoln High School; a member of the University of Texas Longhorns men’s basketball team; founder of Carlton Dixon All-Star Sports; a successful coaching career at Franklin Middle School and a volunteer coaching stint at Lincoln HS.
He is a proud father to Kiana Dixon, who lives in Austin. Dixon resides in Dallas with his mother, Glorias Dixon, sister Carlesa Dixon (who is the head girls basketball coach at Lincoln HS), and his 6-year-old niece Alayna Dixon-Dennis.
Dixon, 36, brings a competitive fire and winning attitude to the North Dallas High School campus, and is excited about taking the program to new heights!
“I am excited about this year of transformation at North Dallas High School,” Dixon said, “and the opportunity to take the Bulldog basketball program to unforeseen heights!”
