Coach Berre 'proud' of his North Dallas boys cross country team
November 6, 2012North Dallas High School Booster Club
The North Dallas boys team finished 22nd at the UIL Class 4A Region II meet in Arlington on Nov. 3.
It was the team’s fifth consecutive year of reaching regionals, but they almost didn’t make to regionals.
The Bulldogs lost their top two runners to grades in October but pulled together at the District 11-4A meet on Oct. 27 to finish third and advance once again.
In his seventh year as head coach, coach George Berre said he was “proud” of this team. While the girls team didn’t qualify, the Bulldogs sent a runner (Karen Guerrero) for the third consecutive season.
In the season wrapup, Berre looked back at the season:
Q. What do you enjoy most about coaching CC?
A. I really enjoy having the freedom to take my runners’ needs and create a training regime that can get their bodies and minds ready for the three-mile race. It is very challenging to me and I enjoy the challenge.
Q. This season’s high points?
A. We had 18 teams at our North Dallas Invitational meet this year. That is the highest number we have ever had, and it made us the largest meet in DISD.
Q. Team’s best meet?
A. It would definitely have to be the Dallas ISD district meet.
Q. What will you remember most from this season?
A. This has been the most challenging season I have had from a coach’s standpoint. I will always remember the core goup of kids that stuck it out until the end. They showed a lot of character, and that is what really matters.
Q. This season’s funniest moment?
A. Hearing Enrique Galvan tell us stories about his dog, Duque, who was his best friend on his ranch in Mexico when he was a young boy.
Q. Happiest moment?
A. When we realized our boys team made the regional meet after a long season of adversity. They came together as a team and clinched third place at the District 11-4A meet.
Q. Outlook on next year’s team?
A. We are only losing one senior boy and one senior girl, so we have very high expectations for next year.
Q. Any final comments?
A. I am very proud of the group of runners that I had the pleasure of taking to the regional meet. They over came a lot of adversity this year, and they represented their school and community in a very positive way. I am proud to say I am their Coach!
