By Jason Chisari, Laurinburg Exchange

LAURINBURG - Scotland High School head football coach Chip Williams has decided to retire, he confirmed today.

Williams spent four seasons as the coach of the Fighting Scots, going 2-9 in his first two years before notching his first winning season in 2010 with a 7-5 record.

His final season was his and Scotland’s most successful to date, as the Fighting Scots went 15-0 en route to a 42-16 victory against Porter Ridge in the 4-A state championship game.

After a coaching career spanning nearly 40 years, Williams said the desire to be closer to his family as the primary reason for his decision.
