Murray State has found some success of late on the hardwood, and the Racers are hoping to find that same success on the gridiron. The way to build a successful program is through recruiting so when the Racers coaching staff picked up a commitment from Shelbyville (TN) RB Marquis Morton they did a lot in building for the future. The reasoning behind his decision to attend Murray State Morton says “They had my back through anything. The visit was perfect, I loved the coach and the players it was just laid back and felt like home.” As for future team mates and Murray State signees he’s built a bond with Morton says he’s bonded with Demotre Wade and Demetric Johnson. Another Murray State signee from another sport is who Marquis says “I talk to the most is Taylor Porter (a girls basketball signee).” Before deciding on the Racers Morton had offers from Middle Tennessee State, South Alabama, Tennessee Tech, Tennessee State, UT-Martin, and UT-Chattanooga. Morton had also heard from Minnesota, Florida Atlantic, Tennessee, Purdue, Duke, and Kentucky prior to signing with Murray State. Before he makes his way to campus Marquis says “I’m working on getting bigger, faster, and stronger so when I’m on campus I’m at my peak and can help the team right away.”
