Sports Xpress Hoops Tour: Republic Bank Classic

December 27, 2012
By Kenneth True of Nations Elite

The Butler Bears entered this contest fresh off a loss to Sports Xpress #17 pre-season team Henry Clay who is playing like one of the top teams in the state. The Bears also entered this contest without their star Demetrius McReynolds who seemed to be hobbled by a leg injury.

Somerset Academy out of Florida had a rough first night in Kentucky getting ran out of the gym by the host Lexington Catholic who entered the state at #11 in the Sports Xpress pre-season poll 81-33. Sadly their 2nd day in Kentucky wasn’t much better as the #29 Bears romped the Panthers 88-32.

The game started out very sloppy with each team trying to push the tempo, it was the Bears who could play at the fast pace and not the Panthers who had many turnovers.

Somerset Academy’s head coach was warned 3 minutes into the game not to say another word from a ref with a quick trigger. Somerset had some talent but it all looked raw at this point and time.

Butler scored at will in the lane and at the rim, as Somerset Academy could not keep them out of the paint. The Bears shot a very low number of jump shots because of their ability to get to the rim and get higher percentage shots.

STATS WERE NOT PROVIDED FOR THIS GAME.
