Home » Boys' Basketball NewsSports Xpress Hoops Tour: Kentucky Bank ShootoutDecember 9, 2012 By Kenneth True of Nations Elite
What a ball game we had in Game 3 of Day 2 at the Kentucky Bank Shootout. Bryan Station and Henderson Co. did their best to mirror the boxing match between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez. Henderson Co. ended with the KO after 5 OT’s. The Colonels had the farthest to travel for this event, and made the bus ride back to Henderson a little more bearable. The Colonels led this contest by 6 at the break as Bryan Station turned the ball over their last 4 possessions of the half. Bryan Station clawed their way back in it and eventually sent it into OT. Kaleb Duckworth was a load down low for Henderson Co. and Bryan Station had no match for him when he was in the game. The Colonels were led by Sports Xpress Player of the Game D.J. Smith who had 16 points and 8 rebounds. Bryan Station got 27 points and 11 rebounds from Larry Morton. But it was Marcellous Washington’s 3 pointer late in the 4th that would send this game into OT. In the 3rd OT period Henderson Co. Head Coach Tyler Smithhart had his club hold the ball the entire 4 minutes in hopes of getting to the rim and drawing a foul with minimal time remaining. Henderson Co. did just that but Bryce Crowley missed the two FT’s sending the game into a 4th OT. In the 5th OT Bryan Station couldn’t get anything to fall, and Henderson Co. knocked down their free throws down the stretch to come away with the 81-78 victory. Bryan Station fell to (2-2) but Henderson Co. moved to (5-1) on the young season.
