On Nov. 4 2011 the Mustangs made school history with having a first round home playoff game. Expectations and spirits were high for the game with a strong showing of support from the fans on both sides of the ball. The Mooreville troopers coming in sporting a 7-4 record and the mustangs at 8-3 were pretty evenly matched according to the stat sheet. Mooreville won the toss and decided to defer their offensive possession to the second half. On the opening kick off Mooreville got a quick turnover when one of the mustang return men fumbled the opening kick. And with only 8:30 left In the first quarter Mooreville cashed it in with a 4 yard run by their fullback making the early score 7-0. The two teams battled back and fourth playing sound defense until #34 Randy Dixon punched it in on a 2 yard run along with an Anthony Smith extra point tied the game at 7 apiece going into the half. After another special teams miscue from a dropped snap on a punt the Troopers took over deep in Mustang territory. After a couple of plays the Troopers found pay dirt again on a 5 yard run by their half back #1. The Mustangs were not able to mount a drive good enough to score and tie the game. To seal the victory the Mooreville kicker booted a 33 yarder to bring the final score to 17 to 7. The Mustang defense was led once again by #33 Jr. DT Timothy Gibson with 16 tackles and 2 qb hurries followed by #52 Sr. LB Hence Cox with 13 tackles & 1 forced fumble. Randy Dixon led the charge on offense with 31 yards rushing and 1 touchdown. The Mustangs end an eventful season with a final record of 8-4 while the troopers improve to 8-4 and go on to the second round of the Mississippi High School playoffs.
