In our last game of the regular season the Mustangs traveled to Ruleville on 10/27/2011 for a tough divisional contest. The Mustangs got on the score board early when #27 Sr. RB Corvel Dixon took a busted play 25 yards to crack the ice with 6 pts. Verdel Alexander added 2 points on a quick 3 yard scamper. With 35 seconds to go in the half #12 Eric Redmond hauled in a 3 yard pass from Alexander. Sr. TE Brandon Brown added 2 pts points on a short pass from Alexander. After a Ruleville fumble on their first play of the possession #11 Anthony Smith caught a deflected pass to up the score 6 more points. Sr. Fullback Randy Dixon added another 2 point conversion brininging the half time score to 24 to 0. After half time the play began to get a little sloppy and tempers ran high on both sides. The mustangs were able to score twice more once in the third Eric Redmond scored on a 20 pass from Alexander and in the early goings of the fourth quarter Alexander took it 80 yards for the final score of the game. The defense was led by Freshman Defensive End Horace Eddie with 9 tackles & 1 sack along with Senior Kordarius Anderson who added 7 tackles and 2 sacks. The Mustang Defense secured it’s 4th shut out of the season. The Coaches and Administration from both sides decided to run the clock the entire 4th quarter and even not to finish the game to prevent injury or harm to any of the participants on either side. The Mustangs finished the season at 8-3 and in second place in the Class 3A Region 4 standings. The 2011 Mustangs have made history by solidifying the first home playoff game in JJ McClain High School History. On October 4th the Mustangs will face the Mooreville Troopers who are in Region 2 where they finished 3 behind Water Valley & Aberdeen High School. The game will begin at 7 pm sharp.
