McClain coming still riding high from a huge win over the cross county rivals Durant high were confident but not boastful going into Friday night’s contest. The first quarter was kind of slow for both teams but the Mustangs struck first with 4:22 left in the first with a 6 yard quick strike from qb Rotavious Thurmand to #26 Tyrun Lemon. The mustang defense stuffed the jags and forced them to punt on their very next possession. After a 3 and out for the Mustangs the Jags caught a break when an arid snap caused the Mustangs punter Sr. Bennet Meeks to scramble and recover the ball on the 1 yard line. The Jags from there punched it in on the very next play then added 2 points on to take the lead 8 to 6 going into the 2nd quarter. The Mustangs quickly regained the momentum when #22 Sr. WR Aconya Brown took the kick off 76 yds. for a score. 2 point conversion was good and the Mustangs were back in control 14 to 8. #22 Brown added another score on a 5 yd. pass from Thurmand for six points. Rounding out the second quarter #70 Brian pernell intercepted a batted jaguar pass and took it 70 yds. back for a score bringing the first half score to Mustangs 28 & Jaguars 8. The jaguars regrouped and came out and got the first score of the 3rd on a 6 yds. run narrowing the gap to 28 to 14. From that point the Mustangs simply hit the gas and scored twice more once on a 22 yd. run by Rotavious Thurmand and Thurmand hit #26 Lemon on a 36 yds. bomb to bring the final score to 42 to 14. Sr. Qb Thurmand ended the game hitting 6 out of 9 targets for 127 yds. & rushed for 75 yards. The Mustang defense was led by Sr. LB #27 Gentry Greer with 17 tackles followed by Timothy Stewart with 13 & Adrine Howard with 9. The Mustangs will next be in action at home on 8/31/2012 vs. cross county rival S.V. Marshal.
