Summer Basketball Update I
May 27, 2014By Timothy Bowdern of Marquette Mustang Hoops
Dear Parents and Players,
I am very excited to announce that I am officially the new heads girls’ basketball coach at Marquette. This program has a great history and I am excited to carry on its proud tradition. I am truly looking forward in creating a program that players, parents, and the community can continue to enjoy. I am sorry everyone one was kept in the dark so long, but the board meeting made the head coaching title official last night. I hope everyone is enjoying their spring season or maybe even some time off. I can’t believe it is summer already, but it is time for summer planning. Below are some things that will lead us into our summer phase of the program.
1. Cleer has already sent out an email outlining our summer. You can read that email here: http://www.ihigh.com/mustanghoops/article_200858.html I had him send that to you so information could start flowing out before it was too late into summer planning. If you know your daughter is no longer playing basketball, please let us know. We will take you off the distribution list. Traditionally we would have more opportunities in the summer; however, we got to a late start because of the new hire. Our summer will consist of three phases: training, games, and skill development. All three of these have made a significant impact on our program in the past. The summer will not determine whether you make the team, but can have a substantial impact on player development. The summer program is not required, but the mark of a program is continued growth. We expect every player to make a commitment to be the best player they can be for the program. If it is not with us this summer, we still look for this growth.
2. We didn’t have a chance to talk to most athletes about their seasons. With the changes in the coaching staff, meetings were not put together. If any athlete would like to talk about their season and/or their future in the program, please email us to set up a meeting. We would love to sit down and go over ways to make your daughter’s experience better. We would really like to do this before summer league play so let us know soon. This can also be done during our kid’s camp week May 28-May 31st if you would like.
3. If any parent wants to set up a meeting with our coaches and/or me, please feel free to email us. The summer is the time to discuss issues surrounding the program and your daughter. We haven’t done that in a long time and I just wanted to extend the offer to anyone interested.
4. Coaches: The staff will remain in their positions as last year. Darcy Hachmeister will be the freshmen coach, and Michelle Spencer is the junior varsity coach. Honestly, we have just begun the process of the third assistant. We will let you know who that might be as the process unfolds.
This normally would be a longer email, but the summer information is already available. Thank you for all you quick responses on conflict and availability form. We will always commit to growing the game and a quality summer program is one of the ways we can do that. It will be a great time! If you have any questions regarding our summer, let us know. We would be happy to assist. I will be emailing everyone soon who signed up for our summer league, summer training, and skills practice. I hope everyone is ready to enjoy some summer!
