Morrow almost upset Banneker

October 11, 2011
By Anthony McKissic Sr. of Morrow Mustang Football

It was the unlikeliest of situation. Saturday morning in the Morrow High gymnasium preparing to play the number four team in the region. We had not scored in five games and the defense had given up 259 points. It was like who ever played Morrow they knew they would have a highlight factory. Well there was something different about this day. For starters five starters did not show up for the game. The starting quart back, tight end and linebacker was among the five.  This was a recipe for disaster.

Well the Mustangs loaded the bus and headed to twelve oaks stadium. The Mustang offense marched down the field driving the ball like they have never done before. The crowd went crazy as we moved the ball down to the goal line. Fourth and inches and the stadium is ecstatic. Running back Marquis Thomas got the ball and headed to the end zone….just to be met by a committee of Trojans. He didn’t get in Banneker took over on the one yard line. It seemed as though the game would be just as all the others.

Going into the fourth quarter the score was still tied at zero. This was the best three quarters that the Mustangs played all year. Late in the fourth quarter a massive receiver from the Trojans ran a seam route. It seemed as though no one even saw him on the field. TOUCHDOWN!!!! 7-0 The Mustangs never recovered from the score. They lost 7-0

The team showed a huge improvement from the previous 59-0 loss to North Clayton. Morrow takes on Tri-Cities this coming Saturday at Tara Stadium. Please come out and support your Mustangs. They are truly getting better.
