What a Difference 24 Hours Makes!

August 23, 2014

What a difference 24 hours makes or maybe it was a different team?  The JV Mustangs took to the field at Pendery on Friday night, to face the Campbell County Camels in the Mustang Invitational.  The Mustangs pressured early with a shot wide by Cody Chism.  The Mustangs continued to move the ball and win first touches.  Trevor Kahmann started a great ball up the field with a cross to Justin Rolf for another shot at the net missing just high.  David Volmer came up with an awesome block on the inside of the 6 yard box keeping the game scoreless. Trevor Kahmann put the pressure back on the Camels with a chip shot inside the 18, hitting the post to bounce in for a Mustang goal.  The game was 1-0 at half.

The second half started and maintained with Mustang pressure contained to the Camels’ side of the field. The offense spread the shots between multiple players including Keller McGrath, T.J. Moore, Nick Williams, Jake Sendelbach and Cody Chism and the insurance goal by Justin Henn assisted by Justin Rolf.  Final score 2-0 Brossart Mustangs!

Then, due to a change in schedule, the Mustangs took the field again to face the fresh legs of the NCC Breds.  The Breds brought early pressure to give goal keeper Austin Zalac his first save of the game.  Continuing and even improving from the first game, the Mustangs held position, moved the ball, and communicated.  Jake Sendelbach had the first shot with a header going high.  Brent Geiman was next to try his head for a shot coming off a free kick by Nate Miller.  This was just one of many well placed free kicks and back field clears Nate had between both halves of the game. Cody Chism put up the first point with a goal off a deflected shot by Justin Rolf giving the Mustangs the early lead.  The Breds answered with a goal off a defensive turnover to even the score. Although the Mustangs should have been worn out they didn’t show it and continued to work hard creating great passing combinations and putting up shots.  Sam Hildreth, playing the field this game, dribbled to about the 18 and put the ball in the back of the net to take back the lead.  Mustangs took that into half, 2-1.

The Mustangs took the field for their 4th half of the night still charging down the field.  They wisely used the field involving the defense including Justin Schultz to drop the ball back and overlap runs.  Jake Sendelbach took an early shot showing the Breds the Mustangs wouldn’t let up.  Chris Hickman showed that size doesn’t matter as he went body to body and took the ball towards the goal. He drew the defenders causing chaos for the Breds yet ended with an off-sides call overturning the goal. Brent Geiman continued to communicate as he called attention to the Breds’ goal keeper playing out.  Cody Chism capitalized and took a long shot from outside the 18 to put Brossart up 3-1.  This would be the final score.

The boys played great soccer and hopefully this is the team we will continue to see. !
