April 10, 2014By Chris Davis of Bishop Brossart High School
The Boys' track team made it 3 in a row over the rest of Campbell County in the Championship Meet on Tuesday night. It was a dominating performance with personal and relay bests being set throughout the night.
The 4x8 team finished second with a time of 8:41, the fastest time in the state in Single A right now. Joe Donnelly lowered his personal record in the 100 M dash to 11.83. The Sprint relays also had a break through performance. They lowered their time in the 4x2 by 4 seconds running a 1:37.00, and they also had a solid 47.7 time in the 4x100.
Michael Caldwell set two personal records as he bested his own school record running an incredibly fast 4:21. This is the 2nd fastest time in the whole entire state. It also ranks him as one of the top milers in the country. He also set a personal record of 9:48 in the 2 mile.
Drew Berkemeyer once again led the way in the 300 hurdles, long and triple jump, and Gabe Roberts had an amazing pr jumping over 40 feet in the triple jump. Chase Britt and Robby Twehues both PR'd in the throws, and Mark Goller won the High Jump tying a personal best of 5'10, just barely missing 6 feet. And Frank the Tank Cetrulo won the Pole Vault with a vault of 9'6, just barely missing 10 feet!
It was a true team performance and there were several other athletes not mentioned that were major contributors. With the victory the team improves its record to 32-1. The only defeat was to 6A Dixie by 2 points at the Lloyd Gold Medal Meet.
The team is back in action again at Campbell County this Saturday for the Donnie Carnes Invitational.
