Boys' Track Impressive in Final Tune Up
February 25, 2014By Chris Davis of Bishop Brossart High School
The Boys' track team hit the indoor track one final time before the indoor state meet this past weekend. They competed in two seperate meets, with the majority of the team going to Mason County, and Michael Caldwell got accepted into the Wildcat Classic at the University of Kentucky.
At Mason County the team was able to squeak out a victory over several large schools, including Louisville Male, Mason County, Dixie Heights, and Simon Kenton. Drew Berkemeyer led the Mustangs with strong finishes in the Long and Triple Jump, and new comer Gabe Roberts jumped 5'8 in just his second time ever high jumping.
Chris Loos and Ronny Smith led the distance squad with a 3rd place 4x8 finish. Loos finished 7th out of 60 runners in the 400, and was 3rd in the Mile. Smith was 3rd in the 800 and 3rd in the 3000m run.
At the University of Kentucky Michael Caldwell went up against some stiff competition and held his own. He shattered his own indoor mile record by 9 seconds, running an impressive 4:30, and broke the 800M record running a very fast 2:01.61, just over 1 second less than his personal best ever.
The team will be back in action on March 8th at Mason County, competing in the Indoor State Championships.
