Mustangs Unleash on the Greyhounds
January 16, 2014By Christopher Jennings of Bishop Brossart High School
The Bishop Brossart Mustangs took it to the the Paris Greyhounds tonight. The Mustangs led from start to finish, leaving behind many disgrunted Greyhound fans. The Stangs jumped out to a sizeable lead in the first quarter, as they put up 23 points, while the Greyhounds could muster only 7 points. The second quarter was much the same as the Mustangs won that quarter 15-10. The Mustangs would go to the locker room up 38-17. The second half saw the Mustangs put up 17 points in the 3rd quarter and 11 points in the 4th quarter. The starters gave way to the bench in the 4th quarter and finished off the Greyhounds. Final 66-32
Drew Burns and Alex Trentman were too much for the big men of Paris as they combined for 37 points and 13 rebounds for the game. Alex finished the game with 24 points and 10 rebounds. He now has 960 points in his career. If all goes well, he should reach 1000 points in two more games. Drew finished with 10 points and 3 rebounds. Spencer Hackworth hit three 3's and finished with 9 points. Jennings added 8 points and a few more spectacular passes.
The highlight of tonight's game was the referees, who called a nice game. At one point, they even stopped the game to ask a fan to turn off his phone, which he was using to take a picture of one of the players. Apparently, the referee felt that the flash was impeding the play on the floor.
The Mustangs will take on the winner of tomorrow nights game between Robertson County and St. Patrick. The championship game will take place on Friday night at 8PM, following the championship game between the Bishop Brossart Lady Stangs and the winner of tomorrow nights game between Nicholas County and St. Patrick. The girl's championship game will begin at 6:30 PM.
