Mustangs hold on for win over DeSales
December 28, 2013By Christopher Jennings of Bishop Brossart High School
In the second game of the day, the Brossart Mustangs tangled with a formidable foe in the DeSales Colts. These two teams were very much alike, almost mirror images of the two programs. Both teams have talented big men under the basket and scrappy guard play. DeSales held the lead after the first period at 14-13, but the Mustangs battled back and held the lead going into the half 26-25. The third quarter saw much of the same back and forth scoring ending with the Stangs up 38-36, despite a 7-0 run to start the quarter. The fourth quarter would be no different. The Mustangs would go ahead by six points, only to see the Colts battle back to within two points. Great defensive play by both teams created multiple turnovers for both teams. Final, BBHS 55, DeSales 45.
Alex Trentman paced the Mustangs with 27 points to lead all scorers. DeSales was led by Nathan Rousch with 24, 17 of those points coming in the first half off of a handful of three pointers.

While Trentman gets the headlines on this day, Drew Burns has been nothing short of spectacular, Jake Jennings continues his brilliant handling of the ball and individual defense. Hackworth and Rieger have combined for 7 three-point goals, while Austin Shannon and Clay Kramer have given us quality minutes off of the bench.
On a side note, Congratulations to Abby Stadtmiller on scoring her 1000th point tonight in the Lady Mustangs win over the Conner Lady Cougars. Great job, Abby and the Lady Stangs!
