Mustangs get Payback against Harrison County, Head to 10th Region Final
October 25, 2013Bishop Brossart High School
The Bishop Brossart Mustangs win 5-1 against Harrison County in the semifinals of the 10th Region Tournament. The Mustangs lost last year in the semifinals of the 10th Region 3-2 to the Thorobreds and they get payback for the second time this year. The Mustangs pummeled Harrison County 5-1 in the Thorobred Classic Tournament, which was the second game of the season and get that exact score in the win last night.
The beginning of the game was a little like last year as the Mustangs got off to a shaky start and gave up a goal in the 6th minute of the game just like in last year’s 10th Region Tournament. However, this year the Big Green Scoring Machine came right back and got the equalizer in the 12th frame when two Mustang Seniors choreographed the first goal. Jake Jennings sent a nice ball to Eli Nienaber who blasted the ball from 6 yards out and into the net for the 1-1 score.
The Mustangs got the go ahead goal in the 37th minute when Dylan Geiman sent a ball to Drew Berkemeyer who kicked the ball past the keeper for the eventual game winning goal for Dr Drew as Dylan picks up the game winning assist.
Eli Nienaber picked up his second goal of the game and the Great American Insurance Goal of the Game in the in 47th minute unassisted when he sent a left foot missile past the keeper for the 3-1 lead.
In the 71th minute Mark Goller put the dagger in the heart of Harrison County. Jake Jennings got the assist when he sent a ball to Mark who got a header past the keeper for the 4-1 lead and the Mustangs fans were looking for the fat lady.
The Mustang faithful would find her singing in the 74th minute when Jake Jennings got his first goal of the night with a handling call in the box. Jake stepped up to the plate and sent one past the keeper. Mel Webster made calls to 911 as these Mustangs were on fire.
The defense played great again in only allowing one goal. Andrew Erickson and Jeff Paulin combined for the win. Erickson had 3 saves on the night and Paulin had 2 save.
The Mustangs improve their record the 18-4 on the year and will face the Scott Eagles in a repeat of the 37th District Championship. The Mustangs are 1-1 against the Eagles this year losing to them 1-0 early in the season and getting the better of them 2-0 in the District Championship.
Below are the stats from the game. Harrison had 1 yellow card and 7 fouls, Bishop Brossart had 3 fouls on the night. It seems the referees are letting them play in the tournament and were very consistent again as they have been throughout the Districts and Regional.
In the other semifinal game the Scott Eagles beat the home team Montgomery County to setup the rematch. The 10th Region final will be Saturday at 6:00 p.m. in Montgomery County. We hope to see many Mustangs at the Championship Game and make it a date night.
