Mustangs Repeat as 37th District Champions
October 18, 2013Bishop Brossart High School
The Bishop Brossart Mustangs took care of business in the District Championship exacting payback to the Scott Eagles who beat them earlier in the season. The Mustangs win 2-0 tonight. It was a sophomore that led the Mustangs to victory last night on a great fall night for soccer.
The Brossart women secured the 37th District Championship earlier in the evening and the Boys complete the sweep.
The Mustangs first goal of the game came off the boot of Dylan Geiman in the 8th minute. Dylan blasted a left footer into the back corner of the net for the 1-0 lead. The Mustangs had a few more chances, but couldn’t capitalize as Scott’s Keeper had some nice saves just as he did to win the JV Regional Tournament two weeks ago. The half would end with the Mustangs up one goal.
The Geico Insurance goal came in the 2nd period. Dylan Geiman made a great pass to Jacob Jennings. Dylan made a nice run down the sideline and sent an exceptional cross to a streaking Jennings who headed the ball side netting for a little breathing room.
The Mustang defense worked hard all night long and denied the Eagle players any chances in front of the goal the entire game. It was a strong performance from both of our Mustang Keepers. Andrew Erickson and Jeff Paulin both played in goal tonight to secure the 10th shut-out on the season.
This is the second District Title in a row for the Mustangs. The Mustangs beat Scott last year by a score of 3-2 and this year win 2-0. The Mustangs will head to the 10th Region Tournament next week with a 2 game winning streak.
The Eagles had 15 fouls and 2 yellow cards. The Mustangs had no yellow cards on the night.
The All District Team consisted of three Mustangs. Sophomore Dylan Geiman, Senior Jake Jennings, and Senior Drew Miller. Also on the District team was Zach Schneider from Campbell County. Not sure who the other three players were as 1 from Calvary and 2 from Scott High School. Congrats to all the players who made the All-District Team.
I made a mistake in the stats on the Calvary game as I had credited a goal as an own goal. It was actually Dutch who had the goal during the Calvary game. Congrats to Senior, Dutch Graus for having a two goal night.
Once we find out the draw for the Region we will post it online. I believe it was this morning so we will get you the information as soon as we have it.
