Freshman Boys Win Invitational Opener
August 24, 2013Bishop Brossart High School
The Freshman Invitational started out with the Pendleton Wildcats controlling the first few minutes of the game scoring an early goal. After a few minutes the Mustangs found their shape and were able to begin applying pressure to the Wildcat defense with a ball played through from Trevor Kahmann to Bryan Duffy. Bryan was able to net a goal to tie the game 1-1. Goalie Sam Hildreth teamed up with his defense Alan Jump, Corey Rauch and Chris Hickman to defend the goal with some nice clears and challenges to send the game to half tied 1-1.
Second half began with the Wildcats applying heavy pressure on the Mustang defense. With some beautiful saves in goal by Bradley Hickman, the Mustangs were once again able to refine their shape. Having switched to the front line, Sam Hildreth scored the Mustang’s second goal with some great ball movement giving the Mustangs the lead and more confidence. In an effort to tie up the game the Wildcats applied heavy pressure allowing for more great defense by the Mustang’s midfielders and back line. Continuing to keep pressure on the Mustang’s goal, a Wildcat shot deflected by goalie Bradley Hickman sent the ball back towards the open goal. Sweeper Cody Chism hustled back within inches of the goal line to redirect the ball out to the side to preserve the lead.
The Young Mustangs continued to communicate, build their confidence and make overall improvements. Way to go Mustangs!
