Shaky Start then Mustangs pound the Colonels
August 20, 2013Bishop Brossart High School
The Mustangs started the 2013 campaign and then suddenly stopped in the 2nd minute of the game as thunder was heard. The game was delayed for 30 minutes. In the 5th minute a Bourbon County player got past two of our Mustangs and made a great shot side netting for the early 1-nil lead.
The Mustang came back with 4 unanswered goals. Jake Jennings started the Mustangs scoring bonaza as he made a few nice moves through the Colonel’s defense and blasted the ball over the keeper for the equalizer.
The Mustangs scored again on a corner kick that Mark Goller blocked with his body towards the goal. Drew Berkemeyer made a fancy spin and redirected the ball past the keeper for the game winning goal. The Mustangs took a 2-1 lead and wouldn’t look back.
The Mustangs got their first Penalty Kick when Jake Jennings was pulled down from behind in the box. Bourbon received their 1st red cards on the night and would play down a man. Bourbon’s Keeper made a nice save as our PK was denied, however a few minutes later Nick Dierig got the third goal of the night on a nice run as he only had the keeper to beat to make it a 3-1 lead.
Bourbon County’s coach was not happy about a few things on the night and decided to take it out on the referee. The referee would have none of it as he issued a yellow then followed it up with a red and the Coach was headed to the showers.
Senior, Josh Keuper scored his first goal of his high school career when Jake Jennings was again pulled down in the box for the third and final red card. Josh took the PK and sent a screamer past the keep for the 4-1 final score.
There was a lot of loving, touching and squeezing going on as the Colonels picked up 3 yellow cards and 3 reds on the night as well as a handful of balls.
Brossart had 23 shots on the night and 11 on goal. Bourbon County had 10 shots and 5 on goal. The Mustangs had 9 fouls and 1 yellow card to the Colonels 10 fouls, 3 yellow cards and 3 red cards.
The Mustangs are 1-0 on the year and will play Harrison County on Thursday at 7:30pm
