Lady Stangs fall to Pandas on Wonder-Shot
August 19, 2013By Brad Gough of Bishop Brossart High School
The Bishop Brossart Lady Stangs are optimistic after falling 1-0 to the Pandas of Notre Dame in the Soccerama scrimmage on Saturday evening. The first half saw the Lady Stangs dominated in terms of possession, but the Pandas struggled to create many real goal scoring opportunities until 15 minutes in when a Panda midfielder unleashed an upper corner shot from a poor angle for the game's only goal.
In the second half the action was much more equal and Brossart was able to create a few chances through some dynamic wing play. "I felt like we played a bit scared in the first half, like we weren't sure we were on the same level as Notre Dame," Coach Brad Gough commented. "But in the second we showed some belief and really proved that we could play with them."
The game, though ending in a loss, has left the team hopeful for things to come throughout the season. "We didn't really play all that well and only lost 1-0 to probably the best team we'll play this year," Gough said. "I don't think that's anything to be disheartened by."
The Soccerama match saw several players make their Bishop Brossart Lady Stangs Varsity debuts including Sophomores Hailee Hundemer, Amanda Lloyd and Olivia Nienaber.
