Home » Boys' Basketball NewsMustangs Advance In All "A" State 54-49January 24, 2013 By Melvin Webster of Bishop Brossart High SchoolIt was a game similar to last year's titanic struggle with Louisville Collegiate where the Mustangs fell a bit short falling 57-52 in overtime. This year Bishop Brossart hung on for a hard fought 54-49 win in the opening round of the Touchstone Energy All "A" Classic in Frankfort, Ky. Brossart dominated the statistic categories outrebounding the Titans 24-23, outshooting them 46.7% to 45%, assists 10-4, three point percentage 33.3% to 14.3%, and free throw percentage 62.5% to 57.9%, in a game that wasa tied twice and exchanged leads 4 times. The Mustangs opened an 8 point lead at 33-25 but couldn't put the Titans away, at one point in the closing minutes missing five straight free throws until Alex Trentman secured the final margin hitting two in a row to take a 52-49 lead to a two possession game at 54-49. Justin Saunders had 18 points to lead Brossart followed by Drew Burns and Alex Trentman with 10 each. Brossart is now 18-3 while Collegiate falls to 11-7. The Mustangs play 19-4 Russell now at 6:30 PM Friday. The girls take on Frankfort tomorrow morning in the eyeopener at 8:30 AM.
