Home » Girls' Basketball NewsFutscher's Double Double Leads 50-45 Win Over Owen Co.December 29, 2012 By Melvin Webster of Bishop Brossart High SchoolThe STAXX Bar-B-Q Holiday Tourney at Franklin County High School proved to be a physical experience that brought together some very competitive teams. Today the Lady 'Stangs of Bishop Brossart battled their way to a 50-45 win over Owen County and the Championship of the Silver Division. They finished 3-1 in the event and earned a few days off before preparing for the Crosstown Shootout with Campbell County next Saturday. The game was a battle of the 8th and 10th Region's winningest teams at this point. Bishop Brossart goes to 11-3 (Montgomery Co. has won 10 and lost 3). Owen County falls to 10-3 (Shelby County has a 10-5 mark). Owen entering the tourney was 9-1 with their only loss coming to Walton-Verona. They lost in the tourney to host Franklin Co. and the Lady 'Stangs while crushing Allen Central 83-42. Brossart jumped to an early lead and led 23-17 at the half. Both teams battled hard on the boards ending the game in a 40-40 tie. Junior center Sarah Futscher had her first double double of the year netting 18 points and pulling down 12 boards. Junior Madison Eisenman had 12 points, Senior Rachel Hartig 8, Junior Abby Stadtmiller 8, while Emily Schultz and Kayla Young did the KFC tribute adding a bucket a piece. The Lady 'Stangs moved the ball well recording 12 assists. The Lady Rebels Senior Guard Hannah Neely was the game's top scorer with 23 points. Brossart ends the year 11-3 scoring 811 points while allowing just 583. They remain undefeated in the 10th Region with a 5-0 mark and 3-0 in the District. If Brossart beats Campbell Co. (4-9) in the Crosstown Shootout they will finish undefeated in the 37th District seeding and will have the top seed for the District Tourney in February regardless of the outcome of Campbell Co. or Scott's final two games to be played. Brossart has previously beaten Silver Grove, Calvary and Scott. Campbell Co. has only played one District game beating Silver Grove. Happy New Year!
