Mustangs Remain Undefeated Beat Perry County Central 56-41

The Mustangs marched into the school recod books at the Republic Bank Classic, when they defeated the State's 14th ranked Perry County Central Commodores, and their much ballyhooed new acquisition Justin Johnson, 56-41, to advance to Friday's quarterfinals round, where we will face Roger Bacon from Cincinnati's GCL.
It was the Commodores who sprung from the gate, opening up a 3-0 advantage before Drew Burns scored a bucket, and Justin Saunders knocked down a 3-ball to make it 5-3 Mustangs, and we never looked back, opening up an 11-4 first quarter advantage, and a 26-15 lead at the half.
The Mustangs didn't shoot a free-throw in the first half, but made amends in the second half, paying 26 visits to the charity stripe where we capitalized 21 times (80.8%).
The only anxious moments came in the fourth quarter when, with 2:53 to play in the game the Commodores cut the lead to ten at 47-37 before our guys responded with a 9-4 run to close it out 56-41.
A great crowd of non-partisan fans were in attendance to see the debut of Justin Johnson for PCC, but were instead treated to an exhibition of structure, teamwork, defense, and execution by the Brossart Mustangs.
Justin Saunders, who is now 63 points shy of the Brossart 1,000 point club, led all scorers with 13 points. Erik Rieger and Drew Burns added 12 each and Ben Uebel put up 10 for the now 10-0 Mustangs. Braxton Beverly, who scored 13 points in the 2011 Sweet Sixteen State Tournament as a 7th Grader, led the Commodores with 12. Justin Johnson was held to 9 points by the Mustangs' bigs.
