Lady 'Stangs Cage Lady Cougars 59-18

Last night Calvary Christian traveled to Cynthiana to do battle with Harrison County and came away with a 59-56 shocker. That was not to be on Saturday at home when they hosted one of the premier teams in the area in Bishop Brossart. The Lady 'Stangs flashed the "D" and virtually shut down the Lady Cougar offense. When the smoke cleared Bishop Brossart had recorded a 59-18 win over Calvary in Taylor Mill.
The Lady 'Stangs jumped out to an early 22-6 adavntage after one quarter and extended that to 36-9 by intermission. The second half saw 14 Lady 'Stangs players see action and still outscore the home team 23-9. Junior Sarah Futscher led all scorers with 13 while junior Abby Stadtmiller added 11. Rachel Hartig, Morgan Verst and Sydney Shannon dropped in 6 each to propel a balanced attack. They held Calvary star Zania Caudill to just one field goal.
Brossart outshot Calvary 38% to 26% and led on the boards 33-26. Once again the bench proved to be a big Lady 'Stang force outscoring the Lady Cougars 23-0. and 11-0 on second chance points. Brossart recorded 18 steals and forced 33 Calvary turnovers in the District Seed game. Brossart now 2-0 travels to Silver Grove to take on the Lady Trains on Tuesday evening by the tracks.
In the junior varsity game Brossart jumped out to a 13-0 first quarter advantage and crusied to a 46-4 win over Calvary. Freshmen Emily Schultz (10), Sydney Shannon (9), and Abby King (7) led the attack along with sophomore rachel Blank (7). They outrebounded Calvary 33-19 and forced 21 turnovers. They are now 2-0 and have outscored their first two opponents 92-15.
