Lady 'Stangs Blast Juggernauts

November 30, 2012
By Melvin Webster of Bishop Brossart High School

A juggernaut is an object hurling thru space at a great speed. Early in the contest Friday night at Seither Center it appeared Lloyd Memorial would hang in the game as they did with 3rd ranked Conner earlier in the week, however in the end it was an easy win for the Lady 'Stangs in their home opener. Brossart is now 1-0 and Lloyd 1-2 after Brossart's 64-35 win. The junior varsity also rolled 46-11. Lloyd actually led 9-7 after the first period but by intermission the 'Stangs had taken a 10 point advantage at 32-22. The Second half was all Brossart as they outscored the Juggs 32-13.

Junior Abby Stadtmiller led Brossart with 17 points followed by ten pointsv each by fellow juniors Sarah Futscher and Morgan Verst. Rachel Hartig chipped in 7. Brossart dominated most categories but especially the rebounding and bench play where they outrebounded the Juggs 44-32 and had a huge 28-2 edge in points off the bench. Brossart's rebounding showed especially on the offensive end where they enjoyed a 15-0 advantage on second chance points. Llloyd Senior Guard Shelby Rudd led the Lady 'Juggs with 14 including her 1,000th career point.

Brossart's largest lead was 62-33 (29 points) late in the contest. The game was tied 4 times all in the first half. The Lady 'Stangs took care of the basketball for the most part with only 14 turnovers while forcing Lloyd into 29. They also grabbed 14 steals.

The Lady 'Stangs play District opponent Calvary Christian tomorrow at 12:30 in Taylor Mill. It's always good to win the opener!
