Memphis Magic Invitational Recap
April 10, 2012By James Cole of Mississippi D1 Ambassadors
The weekend in Memphis was another great weekend for the MS D1 Ambassadors. We finished 3-1 and left on Sunday due to schedule conflicts.
In game 1, we beat Spieces Kentucky Gators 86-71. The team was lead in points by 5'9 G Torrian Lee with 23. But the spark came off the bench with the 6'5 F Charles Cameron outbreak game finishing with 20 points 6 rebounds 1 assist 2 steals. Bryant Magee also had 16 points 10 rebounds 2 assists 1 block 1 steal 1 turnover. Bryant put the seal on the game with Torrian tossing the ball off the backboard and Bryant finishing it Shawn Kemp/Blake Griffith style.
In game 2, we beat El Paso Texas Titans 68-67. It was an 8 a.m. game and the guys didn't eat breakfast. Of course it was a slow start, but we finished strong. We was lead by 6'4 F Ron Logan (13), 2012 6'3 G/WG Bryant Magee (12), 6'5 F Charles Cameron (10), 5'9 PG Nick Vazquez (10). Nick also had 3 rebounds 5 assists 5 steals.
In game 3, we lost to a pretty active Memphis Phenoms team 58-80. We started out on a 12-4 run with 6'5 G/F Austin Jones hitting a pair of 3's and teammates chipping in with lay-ups. The Phenoms called a time-out and things went down hill from there. Ron Logan had 12 points 7 rebounds and Jones chipped in 11 points 3 rebounds.
In game 4, we beat 74-64 the Mississippi Ballers in the first round of bracket play. The game was full of intensity, emotions, and excitment. The Ambassadors stepped on the court more focused and disciplined. We finished the game with four guys in double figures. Torrian Lee lead the team with 23 points. 6'7 F Xavier Thigpen 17 points 13 rebounds 3 blocks 2 assist 2 steals. Bryant Magee 14 points 11 rebounds 5 assist 2 steals 1 block. 6'2 G Blake Smith 10 points 14 rebounds 1assist 1 steal and 2 blocks.
Next up for the MS D1 Ambassadors is New Orleans Grassroots Super Battle April 20-22.
