Home » General NewsMaximize your your performance with proper fluid intakeOctober 22, 2012 By Jamie Robertson of MPACT Sports PerformanceAre you serious about maximizing your performance? If you so, I'm sure you are aware that staying hydrated is a crucial peak in your performance. As little as two percent dehydration can impair your performance, making you sluggish and less reactive. If you weigh 150 pounds, that's only three pounds of fluid loss. Hydration is also important for health reasons. Dehydration can cause a dangerous imbalance in blood-sodium and fluids levels, which can lead to serious illness and even death. The risk are heightened in extremely warm weather. Gatorade Sports Science Institute suggest consuming sports drinks that have 110 to 120 milligrams of sodium per eight ounces during intense activity. To figure out how much fluid you need before a game, divide your body weight in half and multiply the number by 0.17. That's how many onces you need to drink. Start about four hours before competition. Staying hydrated is a key to maximizing your protential as an athlete.
