The Lady Mavs Give Back
January 22, 2014Morton Ranch Junior High School
The Morton Ranch Junior High girls' basketball teams got together to give back to local Katy ISD elementary children for the holidays through the program Santa Cops. The program, which is run by the Katy ISD police, begins with the local elementary counselors identifying elementary students whose parents would not be able to provide a fun holiday for their young children financially.
Through the program, local residents, schools, and other programs may volunteer to "adopt" a child. The sponsors are then provided with only information on the age, grade, clothing size, favorite color(s), activities, and interests of the child.
The Lady Mavericks sponsored five children with the 7th grade girls' teams and five more with the 8th grade girls' teams. The girls and coaches were completely excited over this program, and provided an abundance of toys, arts and crafts, and clothes for their ten adoptees.
"This is a wonderful for you all to teach them how to give back, especially during the holidays for these young children," noted one MRJH teacher.
The Lady Mavericks hope this is something they can do every year because they know that the world is more than just about themselves.
