Home » Girls' Basketball News8th Grade Girls' Basketball vs. WoodCreekFebruary 6, 2013 Morton Ranch Junior High SchoolThe 8th grade girls competed against the WoodCreek Wolves on Thursday, January 31st at Home. The Maverick coaches had been working hard with the girls over the last five days to prepare them for the competition. However, the Wolves talented teams came out on top. Coach Simpson's 8C team worked hard to defend the basket, and many of the players tried out new basketball moves they had learned in practice. Player of the Game athlete, Vanessa "Red" Lindsley, even gave Woodcreek a great pump-fake and drive to the basket. The Lady Mavericks lost 7 to 18. Coach Goddard's B-team girls battled with WoodCreek, and showed them that they could hand. Player of the Game athlete, LaPorsha Johnson, scored ten points in the 4th quarter! These Lady Mavericks were close, but came out with a score of 25 to 34. And, finally, Coach Elrod's 8A girls were nervous, but ready to compete. Competing at the A-level against WoodCreek, however, was a difficult task. That didn't matter to the team's small foward and co-POG, Rosaland Medrano, who scored the team high of 6 points. Rosie battled down low getting to the free throw line three times in the game.The other Player of the Game, Lynzie Gonzalez, managed to deflect many of the passes that the team was able to steal. The Mavs lost to the very talented Woodcreek Wolves 10 to 47. The 8th grade Lady Mavs battle against Mayde Creek JH on Thursday, February 7th.
