Irish Go 3-1 in Brackets, Finish Tied for 9th
July 5, 2010By Joel Lauterbach of Minnesota Irish Softball
In the first game, the Irish battled the Case Batbusters to a 3-3 tie after regulation, but broke it open 8-4 in the 9th inning when Jadyn Spencer hit her second home run of the game.
The second round had the Irish facing the defending ASA 18 Gold National Champion California Sorcerers. The Irish manufactured two runs by sacrificing runners to second and getting clutch hits. Defensively, they only allowed one run and had a play at the plate to prevent the tie. The final score was 2-1 and sent the Sorcerers home one and done.
The third game against the Illinois Chill was a close game with the Irish winning 3-2 against another #2 pool seeded opponent.
In the fourth game of the day, the Irish faced #1 pool seed NJ Pride and led 1-0 after a triple by Brittany Lauterbach drove in a run. The Irish held the lead into the fifth inning. But after a rough play at the plate that sent catcher Emily Gregory to the dugout with an injured arm, the Irish surrendered the lead and lost 2-1.
The Irish had a great outing, facing some of the toughest competition in pool play including the runner-up Lady Magic and 5th place OC Batbusters. Congratulations Irish!
