Houston, We Have A Problem

January 19, 2010

East Point, GA - In this case, Houston's problem has nothing to do with NASA. It has everything to do with Oak Mountain's Seth Houston and his performance against a talented Cameron Academy team. While Houston poured in 48 points against the Cougars, Cameron Academy was able to come away with the 85 - 77 victory. Despite the Seth Houston outing that was nothing short of stellar, the Cougars did what was needed to win as a team, even when their 20+ point lead was cut considerably. What made the game great was the fight shown by Oak Mountain and the focus Cameron Academy used to stay ahead even at times when the momentum shifted and Oak Mountain climbed back into the game.

The Cougars started off strong and led for the majority of the game. A big reason for the point cushion they enjoyed most of the game was the play of big man Kenneth Ellison who ended the game with 36 points - a mixture of layups, dunks, and mid range jumpers. Part 2 of the Cameron Academy Twin Towers was Richard Sanders, who scored 13 and did a great job with Ellison on the boards. Kwame Hood held the perimeter  down with solid guard play en route to his 16 points.

The tandem of Seth Houston and Matthew Gilleran would not let Oak Mountain leave the blowout intact. While it took a team effort on defense, these two Warriors shouldered most of the scoring load, with Gilleran going for 27 in addition to Houston's 48. The game was great one to watch, and probably an even better one to be a part of. While the Cougars' victory will make it that much better, Oak Mountain competed well, and the crown definitely got their money's worth.
