BOOSTER CLUB BANQUET

The Midway Athletics Booster Club hosted its annual end of the year banquet at the Community Center of Harrisonville on Tuesday May 18. Over two hundred athletes, coaches, parents, and friends attended the event. Booster Club officers and members Renee Robinson, Allyson Doyle, Laura Eberle, Jennifer Lambertz, Dana Sutcliffe, and Kelli Yahnig coordinated the event.


Coach Guy Berkenpas presented the volleyball awards. Senior Janae Semsch received the most improved award. Senior Teresa Zielinski received the hustle award, and senior Katie Chouinard received the team first award. Senior Shannon Carver received the heart award. Seniors Shannon Carver, Janae Semsch, Teresa Zielinski, and Katie Chouinard, and sophomore Hannah Mills received Missouri Volleyball Coaches Association academic all state certificates.


The cheerleading awards were presented by cheerleading sponsors Tammy Brown and Mary Cromer. Junior Kaitlyn French and sophomore Kayla Johnston received the co-captain awards. Kaitlyn French received the upper-classmen leadership award, and Kayla Johnston received the underclassmen leadership award.


Coach Bryan Stahl presented the girls' track & field awards. Either sophomore Mackenzie Weis or freshman Cady Wright will receive the award for the most points scored by a female track athlete after the state championships. Sophomore Hannah Mills received the award for the most points scored by a female athlete in field events. Kayla Robinson received the girls' team first award.


Coach Doug Carder presented the boys' track & field awards. Junior Adrian Carder was the male point's award winner for track events, and junior Zach Goddard was the male point's award winner for field events. The boys' team first award went to junior Gus Hill.


The cross country awards were presented by Coach Doug Carder. Sophomore Mackenzie Weis received the girl's number one runner award, and junior Roy Spurgeon received the boy's number one runner award. Junior Victoria Bynum received the team first award, Freshman Caitlyn Chaffin received the most improved runner award, and senior Sabrina Willey received the legend award.  


Coach Larry Burchett presented the football awards. Seniors Cody Foreman and Garrett James were named for the co-captain awards. Senior Beau Bollinger received the most valuable player award. Sophomore Taylor Ayres received the hustle award, and junior Adrian Carder received the most improved player award. Junior Adrian Carder received a Missouri Football Coaches Association academic all-state certificate.


The boys' basketball awards were presented by Coach Brett Burchett. Seniors Tyler Johnston and Josh Fischer were named for the co-captain awards. Senior Josh Fischer also received the rebounding award. Junior Dale Aksamit received the free throw percentage award. Sophomore Bryan Fregeau received the award for the most assists. Dale Aksamit received the most improved player award. Sophomore Taylor Ayres was named most valuable player.


Coach Chad Dean presented the girls' basketball awards. Sophomore Josie Riggs received the hustle award. Freshman Kathleen Yoakum received the free throw percentage award, the assist award, and the rebounding award.


Seniors Leigh Anne Stark and Cody Foreman each received a Chris Richardson Sportsmanship Award. The MSHSAA Good Sport Awards went to senior Janae Semsch and junior Adrian Carder.


Sergeant Hibbon of the United States Marine Corps presented academic achievement awards to seniors Leigh Anne Stark and Cody Foreman. He presented most improved athlete awards to senior Janae Semsch and junior Adrian Carder. Senior Teresa Zielinski and junior Charles Fort received Marine Corps honors for accomplishments in music.


Seniors Leigh Anne Stark and Garrett James received Cass Midway's highest honor in athletics, the Viking 24/7 Award in honor of their participation in three sports per year all four years of his high school career.


Coach Carder's respect for the program awards went to senior Leigh Anne Stark, junior Adrian Carder, and Coach Jim Riggs.


Each senior and was presented a gift card from the Booster Club to culminate the evening's awards.
