Viking Volleyball Outshines the Marksmen

The Midway Volleyball girls hosted Sherwood on Tuesday, September 2, 2014. The Varsity and JV both came out with wins. Varsity won 25-14 and 25-20. The JV won the second and third game in the match, with scores of 24-26, 25-13, and 25-12. Both teams’ standings are 3-0.

Makenna Irvin had 15 hits with 8 kills, Mariah Kenney had 13 hits with 7 kills, Emily Aksamit had 12 hits with 6 kills, Laine Mills had 8 hits with 3 kills, and Johnna Hawkins had 4 hits with 1 kill.

The Midway Vikings were on the block: Mills had 4 blocks and Irvin had 2.  

They also had 7 aces: Megan Yahnig had 6 serves and 3 aces, Aksamit had 8 serves with 1 ace, Rachel Eason had 4 serves with 1 ace, Mackenzie Scholl had 3 serves with 1 ace, and Mills had 2 serves with 1 ace.

The lady Vikings hit the floor with 31 digs. Emily Rockley had 6 digs, Devyn Worthley and Aksamit each had 5 digs, Scholl, Irvin, Mills, and Eason each had 3 digs, Yahnig had 2 digs, and Shelby Drake had 1.

Coach C.J. Chamberlain said, “The girls really stepped it up. They had decent competition. It was really great to have all the fans cheering us on.” Freshman middle hitter Makenna Irvin said, “It was a chance for us to show what we’re made of and we worked together as a team.” JV starter Maggie Riggs said, “It was a great experience for us to work together as one.”
