The Midway Vikings traveled to Osceola to compete with the Osceola Indians Friday, August 30. It was a slow-moving game for the Vikings, but they pulled through with an 18-3 win. The weather acted as a huge factor for both teams. With the heat index reaching over 100 F, both teams were feeling the effects of heat exhaustion, yet the Vikings still managed to rush for a total of 242 yards. The Vikings also had a solid defensive night, only giving up one field goal in the first quarter.
Peyton Semsch, the QB for Cass Midway, led the team in rushing yards with 118 yards on 8 carries. Next in line was Bobby Zielinski who ran 66 yards on 8 carries, followed by Clay Dahman with 36 yards on 9 carries; Conor Hayes went 14 yards on 1 carry and Luke Boyer went 8 yards on 4 carries.
The Midway passing game was 4 of 12 with 26 yards gained. Tanner Yahnig led the team in receptions with 3 completed catches for 18 yards, followed by Luke Boyer with 1 catch for 8 yards.
No PAT’s were made.
Tanner Yahnig led the Cass Midway defense in tackles with 5 unassisted tackles and 5 assisted tackles, followed by Joey Beller with 2 unassisted and 7 assisted, Bobby Zielinski with 4 unassisted and 4 assisted, Shane White with 8 assisted, Zeb Love with 2 unassisted and 2 assisted, George Funk with 2 unassisted and 2 assisted, Jake Lambertz with 2 unassisted and 1 assisted, and Kessler Woods with 3 assisted.
Conor Hayes kicked off for a total of 90 yards on 3 kicks, followed Peyton Semsch with a total of 55 yards on one kick. Returning kickoffs for the Vikings, Conor Hayes went 32 yards on 1 return, followed by Luke Boyer who went 12 yards on 1 return. Punting for the Vikings, Peyton Semsch acquired a total of 191 yards on 5 punts. On punt return for the Vikings, Bobby Zielinski ran for 19 yards on 3 returns, followed by Luke Boyer who ran 12 yards on 1 return.
