WEMO JH TOURNAMENT: ROUND 1

The Midway junior high basketball teams played in the opening round of the Western Missouri Conference Junior High Tournament at Archie on Monday, December 14. The JH Vikings pushed Miami aside to head into the championship semifinals. The JH Lady Vikes will head to the consolation bracket losing their tournament opener to Osceola.

The JH Lady Vikes led the JH Lady Indians 12-9 at the end of the first quarter. Midway led Osceola 23-16 at halftime. The JH Lady Indians edged in front of the JH Lady Vikes 29-26 at the end of three quarters of play. The final score was Osceola 34 and Midway 29.

Laine Mills scored a team high 12 points for the JH Lady Vikes. Miranda Dahman scored 7 points. Mady Berkenpas tallied 6 points. Raelynn Goddard scored 3 points, and Baylea Jones added 1 point.

Midway led Miami 14-6 at the end of the first quarter. The score was JH Vikings 32 and JH Eagles 10 at the half. Midway led Miami 47-14 at the end of the third quarter. The final score was JH Vikes 52 and JH Eagles 22.

Bobby Zielinski led Midway in scoring with 16 points. Peyton Semsch scored 11 points. Mason Irvin and Nick Sparks each scored 8 points. Brice Renner netted 4 points. Jake Lambertz and Tanner Yahnig each scored 2 points. Anthony Hawkins tossed in 1 point.

Midway's teams return to Archie for semifinal action on Tuesday, December 15. The JH Lady Vikes face Appleton City in a consolation semifinal at 4:30 PM. The JH Vikings battle Archie in a championship semifinal at 5:45 PM.

The trophy round of the tournament will be Thursday, December 17. All WEMO JH Tournament games will be played at Archie.
