It was a start in the right direction for this Vikings football team. The first score of the game came from a 21-yard rushing TD from junior RB Bobby Zielinski. The PAT failed when the snap and holder did not connect. The next score came from a 40-yd TD pass from QB Peyton Semsch to Bobby Zielinki. The score was Vikings 12, Indians 0 at halftime. The Vikings started off the 3rd quarter right with a rushing TD from Bobby Zielinski. The Indians were shut out until the middle of the 4th quarter when the Indians threw a 20-yard TD pass. The PAT was missed, making the final score Vikings 20, Indians 6. Peyton Semsch was 8 of 11 passing the football for the Vikings for 119 yards. Tanner Yahnig had three receptions for 35 yards, Bobby Zielinski had two receptions for 53 yards, Mason Irvin had two receptions for 21 yards, and Dylan Wise had one reception for 10 yards. Bobby Zielinski ran the ball 14 times for 92 yards, Clay Dahman ran the ball 13 times for 81 yards, Peyton Semsch ran the ball 13 times and netted 31 yards, Luke Boyer had two carries for 19 yards, and Tyler Wright ran the ball one time for 4 yards. Bobby Zielinski had two kickoff returns for a total of 88 yards. Dylan Wise had two punt returns for 29 yards. Peyton Semsch averaged 40 yards per kick on four kick-offs. Semsch also had a 38-yard punt. Midway’s defense forced two turnovers. Defensive ends Clay Dahman and Jake Lambertz each recovered a fumble. Leading tackles last Friday was Zeb Love with 5 solo tackles and 5 assisted tackles. Clay Dahman had 4 solo tackles and three assists, Christian Cromer had 3 unassisted tackles, Luke Boyer, Bobby Zielinski, Peyton Semsch, Chris Bynum, and Joey Beller each racked up two solo tackles. Friday, August 31 at 7:00 pm the Vikings will host the Archie Whirlwinds for the second game of the season. The Vikings hope to keep up the defense of their 2011 conference title, and they are looking for revenge after last season’s bitter loss to Archie. Coach Burchett mused, “ We need to work on containing the QB. If we can do that then Friday won’t be a problem.”
