Cass Midway’s track and field teams represented themselves well at the Missouri State Championships on Friday May 18 and Saturday May 19. The state championships are contested at Dwight T. Reed Stadium on the campus ofLincolnUniversityinJefferson City.


The Lady Vikings came home from the state championships with a second place team trophy. Valle Catholic won the Class 1 girls’ team title with 66 points. Cass Midway was second with 39.33 points.MarionCountywas third with 37.50 points. Fifty-five schools scored team points in the girls’ division at the state meet.


Valle Catholic won the Class 1 boys’ team title with 81 points. Concordia was second with 55 points, andWheatonwas third with 46 points. The Vikings scored 11 points to finish in twenty-first place. Forty-five schools scored team points in the boys’ division at the state meet.


Athletes and relays finishing in the top eight places at the state championships earn all-state honors.


Mackenzie Weis closed out her career as a Lady Viking by winning the 3200 meter run for the third year in a row. Mackenzie won the race in a time of 11:48.48. Mackenzie was second in the 1600 meter run in a time of 5:25.82.


The Lady Vikings’ 4x800 meter relay team of Mackenzie Weis, Dee Stark, Jessica Owens, and Josie Riggs ran a third place time of 10:28.88.


Megan O’Brien was fourth in the pole vault clearing 9’ 6”.


Bobby Zielinski cleared 6’ 4” to place fourth in the high jump.


Dylan Wise ran a fifth place time of 52.87 seconds in the 400 meter dash finals. Dylan ran a 400 meter dash prelim time of 52.59 seconds.


Jessica Owens placed sixth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:02.30 in the finals. Jessica ran a 400 meter dash preliminary time of 1:01.71.


The Lady Vikings’ 4x400 meter relay team Cady Wright, Dee Stark, Madyson Berkenpas, and Jessica Owens ran a sixth place time of 4:18.93. Their preliminary time was 4:15.29.


Joey Beller was seventh in the shot put with a mark of 44’ 10”.


Madyson Berkenpas was eighth in the 100 meter hurdle finals in a time of 17.59 seconds. Madyson ran a time of 17.32 seconds in the preliminary round.


Josie Riggs ran an eighth place time of 2:41.29 in the 800 meter run. Josie had run a preliminary time of 2:30.76.


Cady Wright was eighth in the 300 meter low hurdles in a time of 51.50 seconds. Cady ran a preliminary round qualifying time of 49.80 seconds.


Josie Riggs tied for eighth place in the pole vault by clearing 8’ 0”.


The Lady Vikings’ 4x200 meter relay team Jessica Owens, Madyson Berkenpas, Josie Riggs, and Cady Wright ran an eighth place time of 1:55.30. Their preliminary round time was 1:51.77.


Midway’s 4x200 meter relay team of Bobby Zielinski, Conor Hayes, Clay Dahman, and Dylan Wise ran a preliminary time of 1:35.56 to qualify for finals, but the squad was disqualified for an exchange zone violation in Saturday’s final.


Miranda Dahman had a mark of 31’ ½” in the triple jump. Hannah Mills had a mark of 30’ 3 ¼” in the triple jump, but neither girl made the finals.


Cady Wright’s 200 meter dash preliminary time of 29.34 seconds didn’t qualify her for the finals. Dee Stark’s 300 meter low hurdle prelim time of 51.26 seconds kept her out of the finals in that event.


Joey Beller tossed the discus 121’ 4”, but didn’t make the discus final. Christian Cromer didn’t make the shot put final with his mark of 37’ 2”. Cathleen DeRemer fouled all three of her trials in the discus event.


Peyton Semsch ran a time of 17.36 seconds in his 110 meter high hurdle preliminary race, but didn’t make finals. Dylan Wise didn’t make the 200 meter dash final despite running a time of 23.79 seconds in his 200 meter dash prelim.


The Lady Vikings’ 4x100 meter relay team of Miranda Dahman, Allie Hayes, Madyson Berkenpas, and Dee Stark did not make finals with their preliminary round time of 54.78 seconds.


Midway’s 4x400 meter relay team of Bobby Zielinski, Conor Hayes, Paul Stark, and Dylan Wise ran a preliminary time of 3:38.72 but did not make finals.


The Cass Midway Lady Vikings finished the 2012 season with a second place finish at state, a first place finish at sectionals, a first place finish at districts, and a Western Missouri Conference title; their eighth league title in a row.


Midway’s Vikings were second at sectionals, conference runners-up, and district champions.


Mackenzie Weis, Josie Riggs, Hannah Mills, Cathleen DeRemer, and Jennifer Gorsage were the five 2012 Lady Viking seniors.


Taylor Ayres, Dylan Beshore, Bryan Fregeau, Tyler Machal, Paul Stark, and Tyler Yahnig were the Viking senior boys for the 2012 season.
