TheCassMidwayHigh Schooltrack & field teams made the long trek toWillardHigh Schoolon Saturday, May 12 for the Class 1 Section 2 state qualifying meet. The results were good, very good for the Vikings and Lady Vikings.
Athletes and relays that placed in the top four at the sectional meet now advance to the MSHSAA State Championships on May 18 and May 19 at Dwight T. Reed Stadium on the campus ofLincolnUniversityinJefferson City.
Cass Midway scored 139 points to win the girls’ team title.Viennawas a distant second with 69 points. Liberal was third with 68 points. Twenty-five schools had athletes competing in the girls’ division.
The twenty-five team boys’ division team title went toViennawith 78 ½ points. Cass Midway was second with 72 ½ points. Drexel was third with 63 points.
Megan O’ Brien won the girls’ pole vault by clearing 8’ 6”. Madyson Berkenpas won the 100 meter high hurdles in a time of 16.80 seconds. Josie Riggs won the 800 meter run in a time of 2:33.70.
Mackenzie Weis won the girls’ 1600 meter run in a time of 5:40.40. Mackenzie also won the 3200 meter run in a time of 12:09.00.
The Lady Vikings’ 4x800 meter relay team of Mackenzie Weis, Dee Stark, Jessica Owens, and Josie Riggs ran a first place time of 10:19.20.
Joey Beller was the winner of the boys’ shot put with a heave of 44’ 6”.
Midway’s 4x400 meter relay team of Bobby Zielinski, Conor Hayes, Paul Stark, and Dylan Wise ran a first place time of 3:36.00.
Josie Riggs was second in the pole vault clearing 8’ 0”. Cady Wright ran a second place time of 50.40 seconds in the 300 meter low hurdles.
The Lady Vikings’ 4x200 meter relay team of Madyson Berkenpas, Jessica Owens, Josie Riggs, and Cady Wright ran a second place time of 1:52.60. The Lady Vikings’ 4x400 meter relay team Hannah Mills, Dee Stark, Madyson Berkenpas, and Cady Wright ran a second place time of 4:18.40.
Cady Wright ran a third place time of 27.60 seconds in the 200 meter dash. Miranda Dahman had a third place mark of 32’ 3 ½” in the triple jump.
The Lady Vikings’ 4x100 meter relay team Miranda Dahman, Allie Hayes, Madyson Berkenpas, and Dee Stark ran a third place time of 54.50 seconds.
Bobby Zielinski placed third in the high jump clearing the bar at 6’ 0”. Christian Cromer had a third place mark of 40’ 3” in the shot put.
Dylan Wise ran a third place time of 52.90 seconds in the 400 meter dash. Dylan also ran a third place time of 23.40 seconds in the 200 meter dash.
Cathleen DeRemer was fourth in the discus with a 102’ 6” effort. Hannah Mills had a fourth place mark of 32’ 3 ¼” in the triple jump.
Jessica Owens ran a fourth place time of 1:03.90 seconds in the 400 meter dash. Dee Stark ran a fourth place time of 51.10 seconds in the 300 meter low hurdles.
Peyton Semsch ran a fourth place time of 17.20 seconds in the 110 meter high hurdles. Dylan Wise ran a fourth place time of 11.80 seconds in the 100 meter dash. Joey Beller was fourth in the discus with a toss of 115’ 5”.
Midway’s 4x200 meter relay team of Dylan Beshore, Taylor Ayres, Paul Stark, and Bobby Zielinski ran a fourth place time of 1:37.50.
Hannah Mills had a fifth place mark in the long jump of 14’ 9 ½”. Jennifer Gorsage was fifth in the discus with a mark of 102’ 1”.
Jake Lambertz ran a fifth place time of 17.40 seconds in the 110 meter high hurdles.
Tyler Yahnig tied for sixth place in the pole vault by clearing 10’ 6”.
Conor Hayes ran a seventh place time of 45.00 seconds in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles.
Laine Mills placed eighth in the pole vault by clearing 6’ 6”.
Joey Beller will be the first Midway athlete to compete at the state meet when he takes part in the discus at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 18. Peyton Semsch will run in a 110 meter high hurdle preliminary at 12:30 PM on Friday.
The 2011 Class 1 state champion Cass Midway Lady Vikings will begin defense of their state title at 12:50 PM on Friday, May 18, when Madyson Berkenpas runs in a 100 meter high hurdle preliminary race.
Dylan Wise runs a 100 meter dash prelim at 1:10 PM on Friday.
The Vikings’ 4x200 relay team has a preliminary race at 1:35 PM on Friday. The Lady Vikes’ 4x200 meter relay team runs their prelim at 2:05 PM.
Megan O’ Brien and Josie Riggs will compete in the pole vault at 2:00 PM. Cathleen DeRemer will also take part in the discus at 2:00 PM on Friday.
Mackenzie Weis will run in the girls’ 1600 meter final at 2:35 PM on Friday.
The Lady Vikes’ 4x100 meter relay team has a preliminary round race at 3:05 PM on Friday.
Dylan Wise runs his preliminary race in the 400 meter dash at 3:20 PM. Jessica Owens races in her 400 meter dash preliminary at 3:35 PM on Friday.
Cady Wright and Dee Stark each have a preliminary race in the 300 meter low hurdles on Friday at 4:10 PM.
Josie Riggs run an 800 meter run preliminary at 4:45 PM on Friday. Cady Wright has a 200 meter dash preliminary race at 5:15 PM.
The Vikings’ 4x400 meter relay team runs a preliminary race at 6:00 PM on Friday, followed by the Lady Vikes’ 4x400 meter preliminary race at 6:30 PM.
Saturday, May 19, Bobby Zielinski will high jump at 11:00 AM. Hannah Mills and Miranda Dahman will compete in the triple jump at 11:00 AM also.
The Lady Vikes’ 4x800 meter relay team will race at noon on Saturday.
The 110 meter hurdle finals are at 12:30 PM. The 100 meter high hurdle finals are at 12:40 PM. The 100 meter dash final is at 12:50 PM.
Finals in the boys’ 4x200 meter relay run at 1:10 PM. The girls’ 4x200 meter relay final is at 1:20 PM. The girls’ 4x100 meter relay final is at 1:55 PM on Saturday.
Joey Beller and Christian Cromer will both compete in the shot put Saturday at 2:00 PM.
The boys’ 400 meter final is at 2:05 PM, and the girls’ 400 meter final is at 2:15 PM. The final in the girls’ 300 meter low hurdles is set for 2:25 PM.
Finals in the girls’ 800 will run at 2:25 PM. The girls’ 200 meter dash final is at 3:15 PM.
Mackenzie Weis will run in the 3200 meter run at 3:25 PM on Saturday.
The boys’ 4x400 meter final is set for 3:55 PM. The girls’ 4x400 meter final is set for 4:10 PM.
Team awards will be presented at approximately 4:30 PM.
