The Cass Midway Vikings and Lady Vikings hosted the 43rd Annual Midway Relays on Monday, April 23. It was a good day of competition, as teams from fourteen different schools took part in this traditional event.

 

Archie won the girls’ team title with 72 points. Cass Midway was second with 64 points.Adrianwas third with 59 points.

 

West Platteplaced first in the boys’ division with 70 points. Hogan Prep was second with 67 points. Cass Midway and Adrian tied for third place with 65 points.

 

The Lady Vikings’ 4x1600 meter relay team of Mackenzie Weis, Josie Riggs, Jodi Rhodes, and Jessica Owens broke the Midway school record with a first place time of 24:35.21. (The previous record of 25:07.28 was set in 2011 by Mackenzie Weis, Kayla Robinson, Victoria Bynum, and Jessica Owens.)

 

Jake Lambertz, Conor Hayes, Peyton Semsch, and Dylan Beshore ran the Vikings’ 4x110 meter shuttle hurdle relay team to a first place time of 1:06.78.

 

The Vikings’ long jump team of Dylan Beshore, Clay Dahman, and Nick Sparks jumped a first place team total distance of 51’ 4”. Joey Beller, Christian Cromer, and Tyler Yahnig combined for a first place team total distance of 118’ 10 ¾” in the shot put.

 

Madyson Berkenpas, Laine Mills, Jessica Owens, and Mackenzie Weis ran the Lady Vikings to a second place finish in the 1600 meter medley in a time of 4:37.47. The discus trio of Cathleen DeRemer, Jennifer Gorsage, and Gabby Smith had a second place team total distance of 267’ 1”.

 

The Lady Vikes’ pole vaulting team of Laine Mills, Madyson Berkenpas, and Mackenzie Weis had recorded second place team total height of 21’ 6”. The high jump squad of Hannah Mills, Laine Mills, and Miranda Dahman placed second with a team total height of 12’ 9”.

 

Midway’s pole vault trio of Tyler Yahnig, Peyton Semsch, and Jackson Eberle cleared a second place team total height of 32’ 0”.

 

Hannah Mills and Allie Geivett had a combined jump total of 55’ 2 ¼” to place third in the triple jump. The long jump crew of Hannah Mills, Laine Mills, and Allie Geivett had a third place team total distance of 37’ 7 ½”.

 

Joey Beller, Christian Cromer, and Mason Irvin combined for a third place team total distance of 285’ 4” in the discus. The triple jump squad of Jake Lambertz, Bryan Fregeau, and Nick Sparks had a third place team total distance of 98’ ½”.

 

Midway’s 4x200 meter thrower’s relay team of Joey Beller, Christian Cromer, Logan Mabary, and Mason Irvin ran a third place time of 2:01.02.

 

The Lady Vikings’ shot put team of Gabby Smith, Jennifer Gorsage, and Raelynn Goddard marked a team total distance of 77’ 1 ½” to place fourth. The thrower’s 4x100 meter relay team of Gabby Smith, Jennifer Gorsage, Cathleen DeRemer, and Raelynn Goddard ran a fourth place time of 1:05.90.

 

Dylan Beshore, Tyler Yahnig, Taylor Ayres, and Paul Stark ran a fourth place time of 1:46.71 in the sprint medley.

 

The Vikings’ 1600 meter medley team of Dylan Beshore, Taylor Ayres, Dylan Wise, and Paul Stark ran a fifth place time of 4:06.71. The 4x200 meter relay team of Cody Marrone, Clay Dahman, David Needham, and Jake Lambertz ran a fifth place time of 1:43.68.

 

Allie Hayes, Raelynn Goddard, Gabby Smith, and Miranda Dahman ran the 4x100 meter relay for the Lady Vikings in a sixth place time of 58.62 seconds. The 4x200 meter relay team of Allie Hayes, Miranda Dahman, Jodi Rhodes, and Madyson Berkenpas ran a sixth place time of 2:02.44.

 

The Vikings’ 4x1600 meter relay team of Tyler Machal, Josh Farris, Jackson Eberle, and Conor Hayes ran a sixth place time of 22:41.96.

 

Midway’s varsity track & field teams are set to participate in the Prairie View Invitational (LaCygne,KS) on Thursday, April 26.

 

The Western Missouri Conference Championships are on tap next Tuesday, May 1 at the Archie Sports Complex.

 

Cass Midway will host the MSHSAA Class 1 District 3 meet on Saturday, May 5.
