Knights take doubleheader from South Georgia State

Middle Georgia State College Knights took game one of the doubleheader from the South Georgia State College Tigers by a score of 9-4. The Knights were led by Kayla Bawkin who was 3-4 with two homeruns and a double and drove in five runs while scoring two herself. Susanna Stokes added two solo homers and Julie Bradley hit a two-run homer to round out the scoring. Jenna Hanson was 2-4 in the game and scored three times on homeruns. Katie Turner threw a complete game giving up 4 runs and picking up the win for the Knights.
The Tigers struck first in game 2 with a homerun in the top of the 3rd but the Knights got four in the bottom of the frame on an error, single, hit batter, and then a homerun by Keri Tompkins. The Tigers came back with two more in the 4th and one in the 5th to tie the game. The game would stay tied until Bawkin would come up in the bottom of the 6th with runners on 2nd and 3rd and sent a ground ball up the middle that was bobbled by the shortstop allowing a run to score. Bradley would follow that hit up with a drive to the wall that was lost in the sun by the centerfielder for the Tigers and allow a couple of insurance runs to score. Tompkins would reach on an error scoring one more run to score and give the Knights a four run lead at 8-4 heading to the 7th. Alyssa Amerson shut down the Tigers in the 7th allowing one hit and striking out one to finish the game and pick up the win with 11 strikeouts in the game.
Middle Georgia State College moves to 24-17 on the season and 6-4 in conference play. The Knights play Wednesday at East Georgia State College in Swainsboro before coming back home to face Georgia Military College on Friday for a doubleheader at 2 and 4 PM.
